Extra credit opportunity!!

Here’s the question I’ve been asking all week:

Do you prefer substitution or elimination? Why?

For each problem below, tell whether you would use substitution or elimination, and why. (YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SOLVE THEM!)

  1. y = 3x – 10
    2x + 3y = 7
  2. 5x + 2y = 9
    7x – 2y = 13
  3. y = 4x – 5
    y = 3x + 6

You can also tell me which method you prefer in general, and why.

Reply to this post by Friday for extra credit on Friday’s quiz!

Homework 4/15

Tonight’s homework was from the 7.3 Practice A worksheet (that we used for classwork), #17 and 18. In case you can’t find that paper, here are the questions:

#17: -6x – 5y = -43
7x + 15y = 41

#18: 8x – 6y = 8
4x + 5y = 36

Leave a comment if you have a question, and don’t forget to check back in a couple of hours to see if I’ve responded! Also, sometimes I will post hints in the comments, so don’t forget to click “Comments” to see if there are any hints.

Good luck!

Welcome!

Welcome to Ms. Krishnan’s Algebra Class! Students in all my classes can…

  • Check what the homework was
  • Find links to resources that might help with their work
  • Earn extra credit by posting thoughtful comments or questions

In order to post this blog (which you need to do if you want the extra credit), you need to make a WordPress account at http://www.wordpress.com (if you don’t already have one). All posts will be screened (that means I’m going to read them all before they become public), and I won’t approve any that are anonymous, even if they are totally brilliant.

I’m excited to be able to communicate with all of you over the Internet!

Here’s your first extra credit opportunity:

  1. Make a WordPress account at http://www.wordpress.com (if you don’t already have one). See me if you need help with this.
  2. Log in using that account.
  3. Reply to this post. In your reply, include your name (otherwise how am I going to give you credit?) and an equation whose solution is 5. For example, k + 7 = 12 works because when you solve it, you get k = 5. However, 2k = 8 does not work because when you solve it, you get k = 4.
  4. Don’t forget to log out!

See me if you have any questions. Good luck!

Homework 4/14

In case you forgot or lost it, tonight’s homework is just the following two problems:

Solve each system using elimination.

  1. 5x – 3y = 6
    -2x + 4y = 20
  2. 9x – 3y = 21
    2x + 2y = 18
